No one can do it alone...
Sharing a passion... not the most common thing one would expect to see as a personal goal! The more people I introduce to the breed, and the more people are drawn by the true nature of these amazing dogs, will in turn become more people out there advocating for the preservation of the Berger Picard's integrity.
From the moment I got involved with the Berger Picard one thing struck me; the lack of resources.
Very few knew about the particularities of this breed. Knowledge came through time, experience as well as trial and error. Some of these lessons came with a huge smile as the Picards themselves taught me a lot and some came through tears. After losing an entire litter to uterine inertia, seeing the pain and sadness affect my entire pack, I promised myself that I would do everything I could to make information on this breed more accessible and open, but this I could not do alone. Other devoted Picard people felt the same way and a sense of community started to grow.
The mission I had embraced at the very beginning remains the same, only the scope of action and the means to fulfill it have changed.
PRESERVE, PROTECT and PROMOTE,
now and forever!

MentoringI shall always remember the first Berger Picard litter I whelped; it was a moment of great excitement. It also was a time of worry as I hadn't whelped a litter of puppies in a long time. I would have loved to have had someone to reach out to for advice and reassurance. As years went by I learned the breeding and whelping particularities of this breed. Over the years I've documented every breeding from the first signs of heat to the moment puppies leave for their new home. I certainly don't know it all but the breed specific knowledge I've acquired is exactly what I was looking for in my beginnings. Mentoring newcomers truly interested in preserving this unique breed now seems like the only reasonable thing to do.

Yes, I still breed Berger Picards! Since 2010 we have been blessed with one, sometimes two litters a year. I feel it's the most I can do as I want to maintain a high quality of care for the puppies and their Mom as well as a thorough follow-up with the adopting families. Over the last ten years an average of eighteen puppies were born per year in Canada. Needless to say, adopting such a rare dog requires patience and comes with many responsibilities. One in particular stands out due to the rareness of the breed: honest and transparent promotion of the breed. Whether they are companion, performance or show dogs, all will turn heads and you will inevitably become a spokeperson for this breed.

My commitment towards the Berger Picard is the guarantee I will do all I can to make the true nature of these rustic dogs well understood and appreciated.
